As a Teladoc Virtual Associate Medical Director, Emergency Department, you will leverage purpose-built technology to work with a collaborative team to address one of the most urgent challenges in healthcare today – providing timely emergency care to patients, wherever they are.
The Opportunity
The Virtual Associate Medical Director, Emergency Department is an advisory leadership role that provides clinical direction, quality oversight, and operational partnership for Teladoc’s virtual emergency and urgent care programs delivered through Health Authority partnerships and national episodic care arrangements. The role helps ensure that virtual emergency department (vED) services are safe, timely, evidence‑based, and aligned with contractual, regulatory, and medicolegal standards. You will:
1. Clinical Leadership & Medical Direction

Offer a medical lens to operations, technology, and partner engagement teams on program design, clinical safety, and process improvements
Serve as a point of contact for complex or unusual clinical cases
2. Provider Engagement, Support & Culture
Engage with vED clinicians via internal channels, provider chats, and routine touchpoints to identify concerns and maintain team cohesion
Promote a supportive, respectful, and psychologically safe environment for providers
Collaborate with Learning & Development and Quality teams to create or refine onboarding materials, micro‑learning content, and case‑based teaching
3. Quality, Safety & Clinical Governance
Review, advise on, and maintain clinical policies, protocols, clinical practice guidelines, and escalation algorithms
Participate in Focused and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (FPPE/OPPE), including chart review and analysis of clinical performance data
Review provider‑level and program‑level safety events, patient complaints, and quality queries from Health Authorities; recommend follow‑up actions and quality improvements
Monitor trends in clinical outcomes, transfer decisions, re‑presentations, and adherence to vED standards
4. Operational Collaboration
Support scheduling and staffing by providing a medical perspective on coverage needs, surge planning, and cross‑provincial delivery constraints
Work with HR and Medical Affairs to support recruitment, credentialing, and onboarding of vED physicians
Participate in Health Authority meetings and relationship‑building with partner EDs, EMS teams, or hospital‑based leadership as required
5. Other Duties
Perform other duties as reasonably requested by Medical Leadership
