
Vice President, Medical
Dr. Agostino Bellissimo, MD, FCFP, CCFP(EM), FRCP(C), EXTRA Fellow, CFHI, is a seasoned healthcare leader and accomplished physician with over four decades of experience in emergency medicine, telemedicine, and health systems leadership. Currently serving as Vice President, Medical at Teladoc Health Canada, Dr. Bellissimo brings a deep commitment to advancing virtual care models that improve access, enhance patient outcomes, and support physician collaboration across Canada.
Dr. Bellissimo began his medical journey with a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Toronto in 1979 and completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at McMaster University as the program’s first pilot resident. He went on to earn fellowships with both the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and later completed the EXTRA Fellowship in Executive Training for Research Application with the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation.
Throughout his career, Dr. Bellissimo has held numerous senior leadership roles, including Emergency Program Medical Director and Chief Medical Informatics Officer at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Toronto; Chief, Department of Emergency Medicine and Chair, Medical Education Committee at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. He also served as Lead Custodian and Associate Medical Director at Teladoc Health Canada before being appointed Vice President, Medical.
A respected educator and mentor, Dr. Bellissimo has held academic appointments at both the University of Toronto and McMaster University, contributing to the training of countless medical students and residents. His leadership and scholarship have been recognized through presentations at national conferences and his pivotal role in implementing LEAN innovations in emergency department operations.
Dr. Bellissimo’s career reflects a lifelong dedication to patient-centered care, physician engagement, and health system transformation. His work continues to shape the future of hybrid and virtual care delivery in Canada.
